Alright, first off, do not take this as if I'm praising the Windows 8 operating system. Heck, I really haven't even been using it that much since I installed it on my computer. However, there's something that I like about this operating system that I think everyone in the world is really overlooking right now. So I feel it's my job to point it out.
I'm going to make a long story short here. I'm not a fan of tablet computers. I think that the iPad was one of the worst technological inventions ever created. Yet, ever since that device got released, tablet computers have become an industry standard. My problem is that they're nothing but overgrown cell phones. They run the same operating system that's designed to run on cell phones, and therefore can never be as powerful as a desktop computer. And many people are now dumping the extremely powerful PC for the not so powerful tablets as their new home computer. To me it's like the entire tech industry is saying "let's dump the PC for $500 Facebook machines."
So here comes Microsoft with their ever famous Windows operating system. The one that people are now dumping for tablet computers. But now this time the OS has been retooled in order to run on tablet computers as well as PCs. Not only that but run all the old programs and applications we all know and love, along with the newer applications designed to run on tablet computers. Yes, Windows 8 does have its interface flaws, but they're very easy to get passed once you're used to it. Anything that once ran on Windows 7 runs perfectly on Windows 8. And given that there are now convertible tablet computers (laptop/tablet hybrids) currently on the market running Windows 8, I mean it seems to me like a better "replacement" for the home PC than an overgrown cell phone.
Yet the entire industry just takes it as a joke. Although I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that, since Apple didn't create it. And yes, I'm tired of every new product with an Apple logo on the back (whether it's a good idea or not) becoming an industry standard.
